SOD

SOD (Superoxide Dismutase) and its roles:

  • Antioxidant
  • Cellular membrane stabilizer
  • Muscular action
  • Action on red blood cells

SOD is an antioxidant enzyme catalysed by copper and zinc. It allows a natural transformation of free radicals into water (O2 is a form of toxic oxygen), with the help of the catalase. Incidentally INRA developed a type of melon resisting to rotting, very rich in SOD, but unfortunately inedible because too hard. TWYDIL® uses this specific SOD.

SOD has been positively tested in horses:

  • It allows a good red blood cell membrane function, so controlling the ageing of the cells and counteracting haemolysis during effort.
  • It acts on muscular membranes. One can observe less muscular troubles when horses are supplemented with SOD.
