Eleutheroside

Eleutherosides and their roles:

  • Help avoid stress
  • Adaptogen
  • Improve exercise resistance
  • Help boost immunity

They are flavonoids mainly originating from the roots of Eleutherococcus (Eleutherococcus senticosus Maxim.), also named Siberian ginseng. Chinese people use this substance to promote resistance and longevity.

For more than 4000 years traditional Chinese Medicine has used this plant, named Ci Wu Jia.

More recently, the Russians re-discovered it and improved the process of extraction of its active substances, and named them adaptogens: an adaptogen is a metabolic regulator which increases the ability of an organism to adapt to environmental factors and to avoid damage from such factors. It also increases the animal’s resistance to a broad spectrum of harmful factors – stressors – of different physical, chemical and biological natures. While causing a minimum of toxic effects, an adaptogen acts on the non-specific regulation of several organs and physiological functions.

According to this definition a horse under stress or pressure will benefit from this type of product.

In some countries Siberian ginseng may be considered as containing doping substances. Any user must enquire about the local racing regulations.
