L-lysine
AT A GLANCE:
L-lysine and its roles:
- Muscular anabolism
- Collagen formation (tendons, bones,…)
- Aids growth and tissue synthesis

Lysine is an essential amino acid and the major limiting amino acid in diets for sport horses. Its use as a dietary supplement affects many aspects of horse metabolism but its main visible effect is the general improvement of horses in training.
The estimated needs for lysine are 0,75 g/kg of metabolic weight per day.
The metabolic weight corresponds to the horse's weight to the power of 0.75: for example a horse weighing 450 kg : 450 0.75 = 98 kg of metabolic weight; such a horse will need 73 g of this amino acid per day from the combined supply as a constituent of proteins together with the dietary supplement.
