Threonine
AT A GLANCE:
Threonine and its roles:
- Muscle anabolism
- Collagen formation (tendon, bones,…)
- Teeth formation
- Essential for growth

Threonine is an essential amino acid for horses. Athletic horses or horses with a high rate of metabolism need more than sedentary horses.
The estimated needs for threonine are 0.45 g per kg of metabolic weight and per day.
The metabolic weight corresponds to the horse's weight to the power of 0.75: for example a horse of 450 kg: 450 0.75 = 98 kg of metabolic weight; such a horse will need 43.6 g of this amino acid per day from its dietary sources.
