Glucosamine

AT A GLANCE:

Glucosamine and chondroitine

Their roles:

  • Stabilize chondrocyte membranes
  • Decrease production of lytic enzymes
  • Aid ease of movement
  • Support cartilage formation
  • Help avoid joint destruction

Both substances are complex sugars supporting the elastic structure of cartilage and help lubricate joints with synovial fluid.

Glucosamine

Their bioavailability is low and depends on their molecular weight. Only a small number of studies demonstrate their efficacy. But TWYDIL® tested this association and showed positive effects after 6 weeks of supplementation. The major one is the prevention of cartilage degradation.

These molecules are highly hygroscopic. So it is important to store them with the proper precautions.

It seems important to supplement horses when they resume work, after a period of rest, with an adequate amount of the combination, at 1.5 g/100 kg of bodyweight.
