Is it necessary to promote the TWYDIL® range on top of a complete feed?

In our opinion yes, because there is no real complete feed available on the market.  As a minimum you have to add an adequate amount of forage and, most importantly, electrolytes.

If one has a look at the feed's label, one sees that the manufacturer usually indicates some of the added vitamins. TWYDIL® always works on the basis of the entire vitamins content or the true synergic association of vitamin groups.

Note that when certain vitamins are unstable, their level rapidly decreases with time. Nevertheless, TWYDIL® guarantees these contents until the expiry date.

The diversification of the nutrient sources is poor and sometimes nonexistent in complete feeds. In order to improve the bioavailability, we diversify our sources.

For all these reasons, TWYDIL® proposes supplementation programmes that are adapted to the different types of horses, and the daily supply can be adjusted depending on the selected feed.

Is the TWYDIL® range only valuable for race horses?

It is true that TWYDIL® originally made its reputation with race horses but, for many years now, our laboratory has conducted research on other disciplines such as jumping, eventing, endurance…

Each discipline is analysed to evaluate its specific metabolic requirements.

Some people say that TWYDIL® products are too concentrated, is this true?

We base our knowledge on several scientific publications which demonstrated that on the one hand our programmes are adequate and exactly fulfil the horses' needs, and on the other hand they bring advantages such as:

  • Recuperation
  • Well-being
  • Health
  • Performance

Are the TWYDIL® products expensive?

No, the TWYDIL® products are not expensive if you consider the quality/price ratio. Indeed, for each product, we justify and guarantee the quality as well as the amount of the active substances to obtain the desired effects, and this at an unbeatable daily cost.

All our products are also certified free from prohibited substances by an official and independent laboratory. For a vast majority of them, no waiting time is necessary prior to a competition.

(For the following three TWYDIL® specialities, the regulation in most countries imposes a 48 hour withdrawal period: TWYDIL® MUCOPROTECT, TWYDIL® HIPPACAN+C and TWYDIL® ARTRIDIL with Harpagophytum. Please check with your national authorities.)

Taking into account that our products are scientifically based, highly bio-available and that their efficacy is proven, after an objective price comparison it is easy to realise that, per kilo, our competitors are not cheaper and that TWYDIL® is the best possible choice.

Why is your antidoping guarantee more reliable than others?

First of all, each TWYDIL® product and each batch of production are officially tested and certified by the LCH (Laboratoire des Courses Hippiques). On top of that, TWYDIL® does not use any of the prohibited substances mentioned in the open list of „clean sport FEI ".

During the manufacturing process, samples are taken at different stages of the production and mixed, following a precise method, to obtain a final sample as representative as possible of the whole batch.

The LCH checks that, even at the limits of detection, the final product is free of all the 11 natural contaminants (morphine, atropine, butofenine, caffeine, theophylline, theobromine, scopolamine methylbufotenine, dimethyltriptamine, hordenine, thebaine) for which vigilance must be maximum because of their possible presence in feed ingredients.

The Laboratory of Hormonology in Marloie, Belgium, directed by Dr Philippe Delahaut, follows a strict and precise protocol of quality control experiment (specific for each product).
Under this protocol, the Laboratory gives a horse 3 times the normal daily supply of the product for a minimum of 3 days. Samples of urine and blood are taken and sent to the LCH.

The LCH submits the blood and urine to a complete screening for all the prohibited substances (stimulants, analgesics, narcotics, anabolic steroids, beta-blockers, diuretics and not just the likely contaminants).

To follow most of the racing codes, TWYDIL® HIPPACAN+C, TWYDIL® ARTRIDIL with Harpagophytum and TWYDIL® MUCOPROTECT must be stopped 48h before any competition.

Does a healthy high performance horse receiving good quality oats, hay and water, really needs supplementary vitamins?

An examination of the vitamin contents of the best hay and oats shows that the diet contains insufficient amounts of 9 of the 14 vitamins to achieve optimal results.

A traditional feed alone is not able to guarantee a sufficient supply of all vitamins in order to maintain a high level of performance in the long run.

This is not a question of the adequate quantity of each vitamin but more of the balance between bio-molecules. If the supply of even one vitamin is insufficient the whole balance will be affected and badly influence the performance.

For all these reasons, our advice is to provide a daily supply of all 14 vitamins on top of the vitamins coming from the feed.

How do I have to understand your vitamin stability guarantee?

This means that what is written on the label is what you get.
This may seem obvious to the ordinary person but with respect to the vitamins it is exceptional due to many factors (temperature, pH, humidity, etc.) which result in instability. That is why many clients have chosen the TWYDIL® range of products after having made comparative analyses.

In spite of the instability of certain vitamins, how can you guarantee their contents?

  • purchase of best quality ingredients
  • special manufacturing methods avoiding high temperatures
  • conditioning under environmental control and airtight, watertight and light-tight packaging
  • strict warehousing conditions (temperature, hygrometry conditions, etc.)
  • overdoses proportional to the instability of the vitamins
  • high frequency of production to minimise stocking period before utilisation
  • none of the TWYDIL® products is released  before having received the confirmation of its conformity to specification

You pretend to buy the best vitamins - but a vitamin is just a vitamin…

No, that is wrong. A vitamin is not just a vitamin. The price of an individual vitamin may vary tenfold according to its specification and origin, and the individual unit purchase price of a vitamin may vary from 1 to 180.

TWYDIL® purchases and will always purchase only the best quality vitamins and we will never leave out certain vitamins necessary to the horses because of the high price.

After 45 years of experience are you still persuaded that the TWYDIL® products improve the achievements of a high performance horse?

We are convinced that the level of performance of a horse depends on different parameters and that the vitamin and mineral supplementation is only one link in the chain. This link may be an essential factor to top performance but we never pretend that our products have a direct influence on the final result.

On the other hand, after considering thousands of analyses we are convinced that following a well adapted TWYDIL® programme corresponding to the discipline will place the horse in an ideal physiological situation. These programmes will improve the faculties of recuperation after heavy work and allow a more intensive training, so positively influencing the performance.

Besides that, we have a whole range of products which can be used in a one-time way to fight specific troubles or for a specific objective.

Besides being suppliers, we are partners and we set up programmes in order to improve body condition, assist a good preparation before competition or reproduction, and we always take into account the economical situation, the targets, the breed, the training level of the horse and the environment.

Are there any hepatic risks administrating such high daily doses of vitamins with TWYDIL® RACING?

We recommend daily vitamin supplementation and strongly advise that a suitable programme is followed. Taking into consideration the vitamin contents in the feed and the horse activity, this programme will furnish adequate quantities of the 14 vitamins. The efficacy is mainly correlated to the synergy between all the biomolecules and, if only one is missing, all the other vitamins will be affected. All our calculations have been done to assure a maximum efficacy with a minimum of risk.
Without any risk of overdose, TWYDIL® RACING supplies all the micronutrients which will support a good hepatic function, such as vitamin B1, B2, B6, B12, niacin, folic acid, pantothenic acid, choline and methionine, an amino-acid.

TWYDIL® RACING ensures that the horse is maintained in its optimal physical state, mainly because it provides a harmonic liver function.

There are many different products with apparently similar formulation on the market. How can I choose the right one?

  • Vitamin stability: at the moment the product is supplied, the vitamins contents could be much lower than declared (due to cheap quality, bad mixing procedures, inadequate stocking, etc). You have to be sure of the care taken by your provider.
The best guarantee is when the manufacturer shows evidence of the content of the  unstable vitamins.
  • Ideally, a formula must contain all the vitamins, including the most expensive ones, such as biotin, choline or folic acid.
  • Price: the daily cost of the appropriate supply is of course an essential argument.
  • Anti-doping control: The existence of an official anti-doping certificate, established by an independent laboratory, is the best protection.

Why are several TWYDIL® products packed in sachets for daily supply?

For two reasons:

  1. The horse will receive the exact daily requirement
  2. The quality of the sachets guarantees an optimal stability of the active micronutrients for a long period.

This solution could appear expensive, but in reality it is a cost effective solution because your horse will have the adequate daily supply. No waste.

Why not rather administrate vitamins by injection?

There are both advantages and disadvantages to giving vitamins by injection. This method is normally reserved for animals suffering severe hypovitaminosis or when there has been a toxic interaction which can be resolved by vitamins. Most vitamin injections are designed to be given by the intra-muscular route; rarely are they given intravenously.
The main advantages are that injected vitamins bypass the digestion/absorption route and are 100 % effective. They produce a sudden, large surge in the blood stream which may have pharmaco-dynamic effects. The bypassing of the alimentary canal is not particularly important for the water soluble vitamins which tend to be 100 % absorbed anyway. It is much more relevant for the fat soluble vitamins for which the rate of absorption is probably only 25%. However there are also disadvantages. In our opinion the risks far outweigh the advantages. The greatest problem of all is sensitisation - either to the vitamin substance or to an adjuvant. For example several companies used to have a combined vitamins A, D and E injection. We know they had to deal with several cases of death in horses due to an
anaphylactic shock brought on by sensitisation to one of the ingredients, usually the emulsifier used to ensure that the fat soluble vitamins could be carried in suspension in the blood plasma. Another difficulty - particularly of single vitamin injections - is that they are given in sufficiently large quantities to unbalance the vitamin/hormone/enzyme system leading to inefficiencies of the other vitamins. The immediate plasma surge falls away fairly rapidly, with a rate of decay varying in accordance with the vitamins. This is generally because a homeostatic mechanism in the liver and the kidneys removes excess levels and excretes them as rapidly as possible. Within 24 to 48 hours, the blood contents will almost be back to where they were before the injection, unless steps are taken to renew the injection on a daily basis. We do not like the idea of sticking needles in horses every day, particularly if there is an on-going risk of sensitisation and anaphylactic shock. Equally there is always a risk of septic reactions.

In conclusion, except in case of absolute necessity, we formally advise against injectable vitamins. As an example, it would be necessary to inject more than 15 times per day in order to reach 75 g of TWYDIL® RACING, bioavailable ingredients given orally without risk.

Does TWYDIL® PMC bring enough calcium to my horse?

TWYDIL® PMC is a very sophisticated product with a metabolic action on the constituents of the locomotor system (bones, tendons, cartilages…). This product actually supplies calcium from three diversified sources, and also contributes to an adequate mineralization of the bones through the supply of all elements responsible for its absorption (calcium coming from TWYDIL® PMC and the basic ration), its transport and its bone fixation. Besides calcium, TWYDIL® PMC is rich in linseed, fish collagen, complex marine proteins, marine molluscs, premix of trace-elements, glucosamine, MSM, MFP, magnesium, silicon, all materials which are going to help strengthen bone metabolism and permit its functionality.
These effects on horses have been proven many times, and are the result of the MFP in particular and of TWYDIL® PMC in general.
A renowned trainer and breeder recently said: "it is unthinkable to consider quality breeding and intensive training of high competition horses without a mastery and understanding of the metabolic activity of the locomotor system: a challenge won by the enriched TWYDIL® PMC".
For those wishing to supply more calcium, TWYDIL® proposes its TWYDIL®
MINERAL COMPLEX, for a simple nutritional addition, with a broad coverage.
