Iodine (I)
AT A GLANCE:
Iodine and its roles:
- Indispensable for basic metabolism
- Supports thermo-regulation
- Supports reproduction process and lactation
- Participates in energy production (ATP)

Iodine is a rare element with a relatively low content in plants, probably because of its lack of a biological role in the vegetable kingdom. It is also low in concentration in mammals, but its bioavailability is close to 100%.
The role of iodine in equines is mainly related to its incorporation in thyroid hormones.
It seems that an intake of 1.5 to 15 mg/day is sufficient to cover the needs.
