As we know the ideal needs of a top performance horse, let’s analyse now:
What does a horse receive in its traditional feeding?

The average vitamin contents of the traditional feed are described in table 2. The table lists the amounts of vitamins found by chemical assay rather than the amounts available to a horse.



If we compare, the provision of vitamins made by a classic ration to the optimum needs of a top performance horse (table 3) , it appears that the traditional feeding of oats and good hay is not sufficient in terms of vitamins to maintain a high level of performance : the levels of 9 vitamins of the 14 are considerably lower than the required quantity to obtain optimum results.
