If we compare, the provision of vitamins made by a classic ration to the optimum needs of a top performance horse (table 3) , it appears that the traditional feeding of oats and good hay
is not sufficient in terms of vitamins to maintain a high level of performance : the levels of 9 vitamins of the 14 are considerably lower than the required quantity to obtain optimum results.
